ABOUT THE MSLA

The Man­i­toba School Library Asso­ci­a­tion (MSLA) has a com­pre­hen­sive man­date. MSLA’s focus, as defined  by its con­sti­tu­tion, is to sup­port the per­son­nel in school libraries through pro­vid­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties for pro­fes­sional growth; encour­ag­ing improve­ments in the qual­i­fi­ca­tions of all per­son­nel in school libraries; pro­mot­ing high stan­dards of edu­ca­tional pro­grams that sup­port a broad range of lit­era­cies across the cur­ricu­lum for Man­i­toba stu­dents; main­tain­ing liai­son between school and other orga­ni­za­tions inter­ested in library and infor­ma­tion ser­vices; pro­vid­ing means for com­mu­ni­ca­tion and inter­ac­tion; and advo­cat­ing for equity of ser­vices, resources and pro­gram­ming in school libraries across all Man­i­toba schools.

To sup­port its mem­ber­ship, MSLA pub­lishes the Man­i­toba School Library Asso­ci­a­tion Jour­nal twice a year. The MSLA Jour­nal is a free pub­li­ca­tion avail­able dig­i­tally to all mem­bers. Print copies are avail­able on request. The Jour­nal is one of the best ways to stay informed of the lat­est research and top­ics in the field of school libraries in Man­i­toba, Canada, and worldwide.

MSLA strives to pro­vide ongo­ing pro­fes­sional devel­op­ment oppor­tu­ni­ties through its web­site. Annu­ally, MSLA also hosts:

  • a fall Con­fer­ence, as a Man­i­toba Teach­ers’ Soci­ety SAGE (Spe­cial Area Group of Educators).

  • A Forum takes place in March fea­tur­ing lit­er­a­ture, infor­ma­tion lit­er­acy or technology.

  • An AGM is held in May which fea­tures our award win­ners for Out­stand­ing Man­i­toba Teacher-Librarian of the Year, School Admin­is­tra­tor Award for Dis­tin­guished Ser­vice, and Dis­tin­guished Ser­vice Award.

MSLA acts as a vital liai­son with Man­i­toba Edu­ca­tion and with provin­cial, national and inter­na­tional school library associations.

​

Your mem­ber­ship in MSLA allows us to main­tain our sta­tus as a Spe­cial Area Group of the Man­i­toba Teach­ers’ Soci­ety which, in turn, allows us to carry on the work of our orga­ni­za­tion as out­lined above.
